You’ve probably seen the previews, seen the four-page article in Retro Gamer many moons ago, but only now has Bombergames released the completed version of Streets of Rage Remake. Eight years in the making, Streets of Rage Remake is, of course, a fitting tribute to the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis side-scrolling beat-’em-up series. However, this simply isn’t a straight remake. Several additional stages have been created, new cut scenes added, new sprites designed, new music produced by five different musicians, sound effects added and much more.

That’s all very well, but how does the game actually play? The game looks like an updated version of the second game, which is no bad thing, plays like an absolute dream and has so much replayability with the multiple endings, unlockables and achievements, I’ve never seen such an accomplished remake in all my gaming years and it matches the original games in every way and, dare I say it, even surpasses them. Without doubt the best remake you will likely ever see and it’s available as a free download for Windows. Go and download it now and read up on the development blog while you’re there.
